Sport Injuries

Sport Injuries can easily happen during competitions.

This happens as frequently when you are training as when you are competing. The prime cause is that by doing too much of a particular activity, you fatigue the tissues and may damage them.

You know you risk over-heating whenever you push yourself to the limit during a competition but the same problem can arise whenever you train too frequently, failing to leave the tissue sufficient time to recover.

To avoid general over-heating, sportsmen and women often supplement their main activity with other exercises (often called"cross training"), which can cause problems if in some small way they conflict with the demands of the main sport.

Warm-up and warm-down

If this is neglected it can result in an injury.
The particular tissues involved in the activity, as well as the general systems of the body, must be prepared for the stresses they are about to undergo. How it is done will depend of course on the sport in question and the environment (temperature, weather, etc)
A proper warm-down which again is sport-specific helps the recovery process to begin properly following hard exercise.

Pre- and post-event
Pre-event and post-event sport massage are important in preparing an athlete physically and mentally for with competitive situations, pre-event sport massage can be considered as anything from two days to two minutes before the event, and the treatment will differ greatly according with the time-scale.
Post-event sport massage can be an adequate substitute for a warm- down as it can achieve much the same effect by removing muscle waste and stretching the tissues.
